Drag is Like Blackface, Judge Says

As reported in The Advocate, U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk, a Trump appointee, upheld West Texas A&M University’s decision to block a student-run drag show, saying that such performances are, like blackface, inherently degrading.

The comment was widely condemned. Queer advocacy organization GLAAD responded, “Claims comparing [drag] to dehumanizing performances designed to uphold racial supremacy are as inaccurate as they are offensive.”
