Christmas-time … when everyone is supposed to act a little nicer, smile a little easier, and cheer a little more,” to paraphrase Bill Murray from Scrooged. Some people never saw that Christmas Classic, however, and we’re all a little bit worse off for it.

Case in point, 34-year old Maryland woman Shibritney (no, that’s not a typo) Colbert, who assaulted a gay man Christmas day in an Alexandria, Virginia grocery store. The incident, recorded by the victim in a video that has gone viral, has led to changes in the way Alexandria police handle hate crimes.
